CONCERT REVIEW - Lauv - Boston, MA
Lauv fiercely radiated enthusiasm and gratitude during his second show at the House of Blues in Boston, Massachusetts. Through arguably one of the greatest on-stage productions to accompany an artist on tour in 2019, the ‘I Like Me Better’ singer transported fans away from their internal struggles and into the world of Lauv within seconds of his performance starting. It was a night full of fans finishing the singer’s lyrics and nonstop dancing both on and off stage.
There should not be any confusion as to why most of this tour is sold out. The tour’s setlist seems to effortlessly attain a formula that kept attendees energy up by balancing both old and new tracks to satisfy his supporters. By not saving all of his biggest hits for an encore and instead intertwining them throughout his performance, Lauv captured fans all over the venue with familiar tunes and relatable concepts through his lyrics. His ability to work the stage and balance his attention between the general admission pit and those on the balcony was also rather impressive.
Through a plethora of set backgrounds and Lauv’s impeccable stage production, attendees of this tour are able to enjoy colors and designs that can only be described as psychedelic or mesmerizing. The visuals allow audience members to feel as though they are also a part of the show and even experiencing being a part of some of his most iconic music videos thus far. During his performance of the track “Sims,” for instance, the crowd feels as though they are in a simulation and stepping foot into an alternate reality for its duration. The intricate aspects of this tour bring Lauv’s music to life in a way that efficiently connects with his audience and provides attendees with an experience unlike any other.
In addition to the visual aspects of this show and the successful tracks that fill each venue, Lauv’s genuine vulnerability with the crowd is also beyond inspiring. The ‘Feelings’ singer gave a powerful speech about identity and staying true to yourself regardless of what other people say or if they try to stop you. It was motivational and resonated with the crowd to add to the already strong and established fan to artist connection. By Lauv embracing his awkwardness and calling himself weird on-stage with a smile on his face, both the comfortability and confidence level at the House of Blues skyrocketed.
This is not a show you want to miss. Whether you know all of Lauv’s songs or only his hits, this tour allows every person in attendance to experience an unforgettable show. If you’re willing to learn the lyrics as you go and easily fall in love with stage production, than this is the show for you. Lauv takes advantage of his shows by connecting with the crowd throughout his set and remaining genuine with his audience at all times. And if one thing is certain, it’s time to see this icon take the stage before he’s selling out the largest arenas in the world.
