DNMO Releases Deliciously Snarky Sick Of You
British artist and producer DNMO releases “Sick Of You” today, via Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats label. The track is from DNMO’s forthcoming EP, slated to drop later this year.
Only 17-years-old, DNMO hooked up with Sub Urban on the song, which according to the duo was written “about a girl in your life that you cherish more than anyone else. It’s about old habits, ritual attraction and at times, pity, obscured the fact that this girl was a toxic ailment towards everyday life.”
The pair of producers has collaborated in the past, but primarily only online. This time the two got together in the studio. The face-to-face chemistry elevated the level of their songwriting beyond expectations, infusing the music with high energy.
In 2018, DNMO made his U.S. debut at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, followed by performances at Electric Zoo and HARD Day of The Dead. He’s played venues like Ministry of Sound, Exchange, and the Aragon Ballroom, and has shared the stage with Ghastly and Ookay.
“Sick Of You” opens on softly oozing synths accompanied by deep, dark tones. As the tune flows into a contagious dance-pop melody, a pulsating rhythm enters on the back of a thumping kick drum and buff bass line. Resonant, droning reverberations imbue the harmonics with deliciously wicked tones, as DNMO’s tight tenor narrates his feelings.
On the chorus, DNMO’s vivid falsetto rockets up with tasty timbres, adding skintight nuances of venomous hues. The juxtaposition of cool melodic aromas with the luminous flow of the falsetto provides a tantalizing duality of sonic textures and pressure shifts.
The lyrics convey a brutal honesty both refreshing and startling, but there’s no doubt about his true feelings.
