Game of Thrones' Reek, Torturer Ramsay Are Pals Offscreen

A Westeros bromance! On Game of Thrones, Ramsay Snow (Iwan Rheon) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) are bitter enemies, but in real life the sadistic torturer and his castrated victim are actually good friends.

“We hang out a lot together and we play a lot of pool together,” Rheon told Us Weekly on the March 23 red carpet at the San Francisco premiere of Game of Thrones season 5, adding with a chuckle, “and obviously I win.”

But Rheon said the IRL bromance is a necessity when you’re basically making someone’s life a living hell on-screen. “The thing is that if you don’t have a good relationship outside the show, it’s hard to do the things we do in the arena of the show. Because we have to quite open to each other in those scenes, so I would think it would be quite horrible after a hard day’s torturing and not to have a nice chilled out relationship off. I’m quite a relaxed person.”

Unfortunately for Theon, the hard-to-watch torture — Theon barely knows his real name anymore — isn’t going to stop any time soon. “It just get worse and worse,” Rheon dished to Us. “He doesn’t get an epiphany or anything.”

Things aren’t really going well for the ambitious bastard-born Ramsay in season 5, either. Rheon recalled that his favorite scene to shoot this year, aka “dinner with the Boltons,” “really is quite horrible.”

But the Welsh actor revealed that he is excited for the new episodes. “This year you get to see so many parts of this world that have just been talked about before. And it’s nice for me, as a fan of the show, to get to see all of them,” he said. “It’s an exciting new season, with lots going on and a lot of new characters. And then you see a lot of characters who wouldn’t expect to meet up. And yes, that happens.”
