Haley Johnsen Goes "Higher" with New Single
Portland based multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Haley Johnsen has just shared her new single “Higher”, which is off of her upcoming album Goner due for release this summer. The twelve-track full-length is an alt-pop record with nostalgic influences of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and chronicles the “constant pull between confidence and self doubt,” confides Johnsen.
With “Higher”, Haley Johnsen finds inspiration and solace by looking inward. She confides that the track is, “About not giving up on yourself. It’s that feeling of knowing that no matter what, you’re going to continue growing, continue dreaming, and that in itself is the greatest high. Knowing that you’ve built that trust within yourself to keep going even when life has worn you down.” Johnsen’s smooth and dreamy vocals float atop a relaxing trip-hop beat and slide guitar, for a warm blanket of sound. “Higher” is a vibrant fusion of breezy indie folk, dream rock and downtempo electronic for an ear pleasing listen with a hopeful message.
Raised listening to the likes of Brandie Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, and Grace Potter, the Oregon born musician and singer found inspiration from these captivating roots music singers and storytelling songwriters. Her music is equally soaring, fusing nostalgic inspired rhythms with fresh melodies detailing existential narratives and intimate moments. Collaborating with the likes of other well known musicians including Allen Stone and Big Wild, Haley Johnsen lends her talents to many projects.
