Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Actress Marica Strassman Dies at 66
You know Marcia Strassman from back in the 70s when she starred in the hit series Welcome Back, Kotter and a slightly younger generation knows her from her role in the hit movie, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” from back in the early 90s. Today, we remember Marcia Strassman as an accomplished actress who unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 66. Strassman’s sister, Julie, announced this morning that her sister passed quietly on Saturday after enduring a painful battle with cancer.
The first revelation that the actress lost her battle came from iconic singer, Cher, who posted a touching message to twitter over the weekend in remembrance of her friend.
“Wanted U2 No, a funny, talented friend died. Not 4U 2feel sorry 4me but she died alone, &energy from U is powerful &sends (love emoticon) Marcia Strassman,” she posted to her account. Strassman was first noticed when she played in the hit 70s series Welcome Back, Kotter and she continued to wow audiences over the next few decades when she took on a number of smaller roles in film and on television. It wasn’t until 1989 when she portrayed the wife of a scientist who accidently turns his kids into tiny little people that make ants look like massive giants that she was back in the spotlight once again. The film inspired two sequels, in which she starred in both as the wife of a scientist who just keeps turning his loved ones into people who just aren’t the correct size.
Today, Strassman leaves behind her only child, a daughter, as well as her sister and brother. She was not married, and her daughter has no children of her own. The actress’ breast cancer diagnosis was a shock to her entire family, and her death is mourned by many.
