On June 24 Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary shared on Instagram that Madonna had been hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection, requiring her to spend several days in the ICU. The situation seemed quite dire, with reports that her family had gathered because they were so worried she might die. Kaiser speculated (and I agree) that they probably wouldn’t have made any kind of announcement but for the 40 date Celebration tour she was due to begin in mid July. By the end of June Madonna was cleared to go home to continue her recovery, but there were concerns that she would start to do too much too soon to get the tour back on track. Now Madonna has taken to Instagram herself to thank everyone for their well wishes and to confirm that her Celebration tour would begin in October:

Madonna is rescheduling the North American leg of her world tour following her recent hospitalization.

The Grammy winner announced the news in an Instagram post on Monday.

“Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love,” she wrote, “I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.”

She went on to write, “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.

“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can,” she added.

Madonna stated that she will kick off the tour internationally in October.

CNN has reached out to her representatives for further comment.

Last month, Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, announced she was in the ICU after developing a “serious bacterial infection.”

Madonna’s “Celebration” tour was scheduled to kick off July 15 in Vancouver, Canada.

In a statement following Madonna’s post, Live Nation confirmed all the North American dates of our tour have been postponed.

“Fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets as they will be valid for the new dates once announced,” the statement read.

So the North American leg that was supposed to be over the next few months is not rescheduled yet. My question is, is three months enough time to recover? I’m really asking here. As a performer Madonna has been in great shape all her life. Physically I think that will only help her recovery, except if she pushes too hard, and unfortunately she seems very much the type to do just that. A photo emerged this week of Madonna out in New York, but you really can’t tell much from the one shot other than she’s donning a fabulous sunhat. I hope the people around her love her enough to push back if she starts revving up too fast. But for the love of the Material Girl, when she does return to the tour, do not throw shit at her onstage.
