Nikita Khrushchev was a Russian politician. He led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War, having served as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, from 14 September, 1953 to 14 October, 1964, and as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, or Premier, from 27 March, 1958 to 14 October, 1964. He was also First Secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine (Bolsheviks), from 27 January, 1938 to 3 March, 1947, and again from 26 December, 1947 to 16 December, 1949. He was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 1957.

Khrushchev’s parents, Sergei Nikanorovich Khrushchev and Ksenia Ivanovna (Khudyakova) Khrushcheva, were peasants. He was married to Yefrosinia Ivanovna Pisareva, until her death, and to Nina Petrovna Kukharchuk, until his death. He had two children with Yefrosinia, and three with Nina.

Khrushchev’s paternal grandfather was Nikanor Sergeevich Khrushchev (the son of Sergei Fedorovich Khrushchev and Uliyana Ermolaeva). Khrushchev’s great-grandfather Sergei was the son of Feodor Fomich Khrushchev.

Khrushchev’s maternal grandfather was named Ivan Khudyakov.
