Jay Z Wears Millésime Impérial by Creed
The fragrance brand Creed is worn by a lot of different celebrities out there like George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, and Richard Gere. That’s why it isn’t too much of a surprise to find out that Jay-Z wears one of Creed’s colognes.
The House of Creed is a British boutique perfumery that began its legacy with a commissioned bottle of cologne for King George III. The original fragrance was called Royal English Leather and it combined notes of ambergris, mandarin, and sandalwood.
This famous company was founded in 1760 and began with custom-tailored clothing for the royal court in England. The fragrance house became very well-known throughout its over 250 years of business.
They relocated to Paris, France in 1854 and were given a Royal Warrant in 1870. The fragrance house waited until 1970 to make their fragrances available to the general public. Their flagship cologne, called Green Irish Tweed, debuted in 1985, but that’s not the cologne that Jay Z wears.
Jay-Z prefers the boutique’s gold standard in the world of fragrances. That would be the Creed fragrance known as Millésime Impérial.
Creed’s website describes this fragrance as “Fit for royalty, this citrus/fresh scent is famed for its signature golden look and befits any occasion, from the corner office to the corner suite.”
As the King of Rap and prolific businessman he is, Jay-Z personifies the Millésime Impérial fragrance.
Millésime Impérial by Creed is a woody floral musk and a unisex fragrance. It features top notes of sea salt and fruit, middle notes of bergamot, Sicilian lemon, Mandarin orange, and iris, and a base of woody, musk, and sea notes.
A 50ml bottle of Millésime Impérial by Creed costs $310.

9IX by Rocawear
Jay-Z’s other go-to fragrance is 9 IX by Rocawear. Rocawear is a company that was founded by Jay-Z and Damon Dash in 1999. Dash is also a co-founder of Jay-Z’s record company Roc-A-Fella Records that has since been dissolved.
The cologne 9IX was launched by Rocawear in 2008 and the perfume company IFF was behind its creation. The licensing for the product is actually owned by the cosmetics company Elizabeth Arden.
The colognes is a woody aromatic fragrance that is aimed at the younger population and was the first fragrance released by Rocawear and was targeted at urban and modern Afro-Americans or multiethnic clients.
It has top notes of mandarin orange, coriander, and melon. At the heart of 9IX are notes of lavender, geranium, and suede. Its base features musk, amber, and woody notes.
Jay-Z wasn’t just involved in getting a fragrance out with his company Rocawear though. He also released his own fragrances too which have caused him some legal issues.
Gold & Gold Extreme by Jay-Z
In 2013, Jay-Z released a fragrance under his own name that was called Gold by Jay-Z. He worked alongside Ilias Ermenidis of Firmenich to create his first-ever fragrance for men.
Gold by Jay-Z is an Aromatic Fougere cologne that features top notes of blueberry, cardamom, ginger, and grapefruit. Its middle notes are lavender, vetiver, pink pepper, and violet leaf, and it has base notes of teak wood, amber, myrrh, and vanilla.
His follow-up fragrance was another aromatic Fougere called Gold Extreme, which he worked with Firmenich on once again. It featured many of the same notes.
However, Jay-Z featured legal backlash from the fragrance manufacturer he had partnered with, Parlux. He was sued by the company in 2016 for failing to promote his fragrances which had been part of their agreement. The judge ruled in favor of the company’s $20 million lawsuit.
Unlike most celebrities who find massive success in launching their own fragrance, Jay-Z was an example that not all fragrance launches go as planned.
